iGen3 Environmental Facts

The iGen3 digital printing press not only produces a high quality product efficiently, it also produces a product in a more eco-friendly fashion than printing presses of the past.  The iGen3 was constructed with the environment in mind to reduce the machine’s overall carbon footprint.

Digital Print shared an article regarding not only the iGen3′s superior performance, but also its environmental standards, below are some of the facts regarding the iGen3′s environmental footprint:

– Ninety seven percent of the iGen’s components are recyclable and none of the components generate or use any hazardous materials to the environment.

– Over 80 percent of the waste produced by this digital printing press can be reused or recycled.  This includes dry ink, packaging and the machine’s parts.

–  The ink used is non-toxic and even produces less waste than traditional printing presses.

– Items on this machine that are not recyclable can be repackaged and sent back to the manufacturer for proper disposal.

So in addition to the print industry’s standard of using 60 percent recycled energy to produce a product, the industry is also continuous producing new technology, such as the iGen3 to substantially reduce the industry’s environmental impact.

Finally, print is the only medium with a one-time carbon footprint.  All digital products have reoccurring carbon footprints every single time a device is powered up and used.  Both digital and print will have their environmental impacts, the important factor is understanding the impacts and reducing them in any way possible — both from a production standpoint and a consumer standpoint — we’re all responsible to eliminate or reduce our carbon footprints.  The printing industry continues to strive toward environmental excellence through new digital printing technologies and new ways to produce products with recycled energy and material.
